ACP vs the users

On Friday July 19th, at the Balboa School Theater, a meeting was held between the Board of Directors of the Panama Canal and its users to speak about a possible tariffs hike. The opinion of the users was unanimous, everyone said that it was not the moment to apply such hikes and that in any case; they should be applied on a scale basis.

We, at Fort Amador Resort & Marina, believe that the price hike, even though it might be necessary, will bring as a consequence, the reduction in calls for cruise ships as well as yachts into the Pacific, and we think that it would be prudent that such price hikes should be done on a scale form, allowing for a minor impact.

We are havin
g talks with the Maritime Authority, Panama Canal Authority, IPAT and other entities of the government to present our analysis, which basically shows that cruise ships only represent 2% of Canal Traffic and that on the other hand, the amount of tourists that will arrive at the Pacific represent a larger economic impact.
